Police investigate death of man after car and truck crash

NEW South Wales police are continuing investigations after a man died in hospital following a crash on the Pacific Hwy last week.

He died, four days after being critically injured in a collision south of Ballina.

The crash happened at noon last Wednesday (March 27) at Tabbimobile, about 60km south of Ballina, when a southbound VW Passat and a northbound truck collided.

Police say the truck pushed the car almost 80m before stopping.

The car driver, a 62-year-old man from Frenchs Forest, suffered critical head injuries and was airlifted to Gold Coast Hospital where he died on Easter Sunday.

Also in the crash, the man's 61-year-old wife was taken to Lismore Base Hospital with spinal injuries.

The driver of the truck, a 41-year-old man from Punchbowl was breath-tested by police and returned a negative reading at the scene.
