Police hunt rape suspect

POLICE are investigating the alleged rape of a young woman inside her Redbank Plains home.

Detectives were yesterday trying to find the 20-year-old man they believed was responsible for the attack.

Ipswich CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Gary Dixon said police began their inquiries late Monday night after an 18-year-old woman claimed she was sexually assaulted by a man known to her.

"The female victim knew the alleged attacker through a friend of hers," Snr Sgt Dixon said.

After attending the woman's residence about 8.20pm on Monday and asking if he could speak to her, the man allegedly attempted to kiss the woman while they were in the kitchen area.

"At that point she asked him to leave the house," Snr Sgt Dixon said.

The 18-year-old victim told police that she was then taken into a bedroom and raped.

The offender left the house immediately after the alleged attack and hasn't been seen since.

Snr Sgt Dixon said the victim made a phone call to a friend to report what had happened, with police receiving information a short time later.

Investigations continued well into yesterday morning, with forensic medical officers examining the young woman.

There was no mention of any serious physical injuries as a result of the sexual assault.

Snr Sgt Dixon said police were yet to locate and speak to the accused man.

"We had detectives working until 4am (yesterday), but their investigations were somewhat limited given the time," he said.

Police continued the hunt for the alleged offender yesterday.

Anyone with information that could assist with police investigations can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
