Mayor Burnett offers Footy Show entertainment centre
MORE than 9000 households between Gladstone and Rockhampton sit down to watch Paul 'Fatty' Vautin and his NRL Footy Show team every week and now, an ambitious move from mayor Matt Burnett might (just might) bring them to Gladstone.
The Gladstone Regional Council mayor has written an email to the producers of The Footy Show on Tuesday night detailing the reasons why they should come to Gladstone.
Cr Burnett is hoping to woo Paul 'Fatty' Vautin and his team with the XXXX Queensland Maroons State of Origin Fan Day on June 14.
"There is no better opportunity or reason for them to come to town," he said.
Central Queensland is rugby league heartland with more than 6500 registered players and more than 40,000 members of the CQ NRL BID for a National Rugby League team.

Cr Burnett believes the national footy show, which has about 9000 viewers in the Fitzroy region each Wednesday night on Channel Nine, would benefit from broadcasting from Gladstone on June 15.
"The Maroons Fan Day presents an opportunity for Channel Nine to cement its place as the broadcaster for regional rugby league fans," the letter reads.
"I can already see interviews with NRL Bid Team bosses followed by interviews with our Australian Womens' Rugby
League Players Chelsea Baker and Cody House both of whom play for our local Gladstone team."
The letter has a link for the producers to inspect the technical specifications of the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre but does not say they could use it for free."
But when we asked about that, Cr Burnett said he would "gladly make the GECC available for the Footy Show".
"I'm not going to lose the Footy Show squabbling over funding," he said.
GECC general manager Carly Quinn said she would "absolutely" host the Footy Show.
"We have amazing technical abilities in this theatre and would love to showcase them to the region and the rest of Australia," she said.
"We would be so excited to host any footy show."
Cr Burnett had the same sentiment and didn't just stop with the NRL Footy Show.
He also sent letters to Fox Sports and Monday Night with host Matty Johns.
"The timing would be more difficult with them, but if they just came up and did a segment of their show up here I would be happy," he said.
"But they certainly have to come to town when we have the Queensland Maroons in Gladstone."
He added the whole region would benefit if Gladstone was shown on a national program.
"We can show Australia we have a lot to offer," he said.
"The benefits for the region are enormous."
The Observer is eagerly waiting on a response from The NRL Footy Show.
