Play School friends in town

BIG Ted, Little Ted, Jemima and their Play School friends will come to life on stage in Mackay.

They will visit next week as a part of the TV show's Once Upon A Time tour.

Alex Papps, one of the presenters of the show, said he always wanted to be a part of Play School.

"Many people grew up with Play School, I'm a big fan," he said.

"It's one of those very coveted, respected jobs and I wanted to do it for a long time.

"I finally got an audition and was offered the gig.

"When I walked into the audition room and met all the toys... that was overwhelming, they were all lined up to meet me."

Mr Papps is also known for his previous roles in Australian TV shows The Henderson Kids and Home and Away.

He said he'd been a presenter with Play School for 10 years now, which he is "grateful" for.

"There's a sentimental connection with it (Play School)," Mr Papps said.

"It's as fun as it looks.

"It's highly valued with families and children as it's entertaining and instils sound values and explores themes."

The new show Once Upon A Time would be visually beautiful, he said.

"I love north Queensland I'm looking forward to it," Mr Papps.

"You can't beat the live dynamic and instant feedback of a show.

"As a Play School presenter that's very special."
