'Platform' is the new name of Mackay's Got Talent

MACKAY'S Got Talent has been re-branded and revamped and will now be known as 'Platform'.

The program will seek to identify and develop young people with aspirations to succeed in the entertainment industry.

Bridget Mather, Mackay Regional Council Community and Client Services director, said the competition was about giving young people a chance to showcase and develop their talents.

"This is one of the major initiatives supported by council's youth development program and we want to get away from it just being a music competition,” she said.

"While it's open to young musicians and singers we also want aspiring actors, acrobats, comedians, DJs, magicians - you name it - to audition.

Ms Mather said they also wanted to hear from people keen to be involved in the behind the scenes aspects of the entertainment industry.

"There are development opportunities for budding photographers, set designers, artists, sound technicians, costume designers, directors, film makers, prop masters or anyone with an interest in the backstage business of show business,” she said.

Those interested are encouraged to apply for a registration pack, which will also include audition tips, by emailing nikki.hughes@mackay. qld.gov.au.

The Platform Showcase Finale will be held on Sunday, April 22, at the MECC.

Prizes include $2000 in bursaries, as well as career development opportunities.
