Plan to rebuild Proserpine Showgrounds

A FUNDRAISING target of $50,000, to be used in the repair of the showgrounds, has been set by the Proserpine Show Society.

Local business Farm HQ has joined forces with Incitec Pivot Fertilisers who will donate a portion of every tonne of fertiliser sold during the peak fertilising season, between August and December, to the Showgrounds Recovery Fund.

The fund has been set up to raise much-needed funds to restore power facilities and repair buildings and fencing which were severely damaged by Cyclone Debbie.

Showgrounds committee member Mike Porter hopes the fund may also go some way to replacing the 80-year-old show pavilion, which was decimated in the cyclone.

"The showgrounds are a valuable asset for the Proserpine community, utilised not just for the annual show, but for a host of events benefiting the broader local community," Mr Porter said.

"We are delighted that Farm HQ and Incitec Pivot Fertilisers are working together to help rebuild our facilities through the Showgrounds Recovery Fund."

Incitec Pivot Fertilisers spokesman Justin Turvey said the company was honoured to take part in the fundraising effort.

Growers, other individuals and local businesses are also invited to make donations to the fund.
