Peters praises Friends of the Festival
A CHILDERS Festival "think tank" involving a broad cross section of Childers locals and the Bundaberg Regional Council Events team is a prime reason the popular festival continues to generate ideas that captivate crowds, says the council.
Council's Community Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Judy Peters said the Friends of the Festival is a group of locals from diverse backgrounds from within the Childers area who are partnering with Bundaberg Regional Council Events team.
"It is this local input from people who understand their community and what it has to offer that really has been incredibly useful in incorporating new initiatives into the festival program.
"The Friends of the Festival volunteers have developed many successful concepts that have been included in the festival planning as we strive to grow the Childers Festival beyond its current two day status.
"In addition to suggestions such as historic street walks and local tours the group has also promoted the idea of signage to identify local stall holders among the hundreds that participate at the festival," said Cr Peters.
"This is a great way of ensuring that visitors can identify and support the local stallholders."
Cr Peters said the Friends of the Festival met on a regular basis to discuss new ideas and initiatives.
"We certainly welcome anyone along to our meetings who feels they may have a contribution worth sharing."
The next meeting of the Childers Friends of the Festival is scheduled for January 28 at 4.30pm at the Isis Cultural Centre.
