Paying a political price for our ignorance

AS I understand it, Steve Dickson "swapped camps” so he could "represent the people of Buderim”, as his old party are not.

On the act of leaving the party they were members of at election, most do it only to save the party further embarrassment during the term of parliament when their misdeeds should have required them to resign from parliament itself.

Not just the front bench as in Sussan Ley's case.

But the reality is the purpose of the electoral process is only to elect persons to represent our electorates, not parties.

And should those persons fail or refuse to fulfil their legal duties, that is a matter for their constituents, whom have every right to hold them personally and immediately accountable the very moment they do so.

What really needs an overhaul is the people's ignorance of our democratic system and shameful acceptance of the artificial party system in its stead.
