Pay us properly and there’s no problem
I'VE seen a lot of talk about the fatigue regulations lately and I just thought I'd throw my idea into the hat.
Pay the industry for the work we actually do.
Being paid a kilometre rate doesn't exactly encourage you to take it easy and drive to the conditions.
In fact, it pushes you to do the exact opposite to jam in as many kilometres as you can.
If the NHVR says we can only work 12 hours in a day, pay us for the 12 hours.
That way we aren't all driving like nut cases.
You want to kill a snake, you cut off the head, not the tail. The drivers are just the tail. It's these stupid ways we are paid that's the head.
Load rates should be illegal, especially on local.
