Paul Pisasale wins an early battle in Gary Duffy suit
EMBATTLED former Ipswich mayor Paul Pisasale has won the first round of a defamation battle against self-styled "shadow Ipswich mayor" Gary Duffy.
District Court judge Richard Jones has ordered Duffy to pay Pisasale's costs incurred in his successful bid to strike out Duffy's 120-page long defence.
Mr Duffy, who is representing himself in court, was sued by Pisasale in February over posts he made to a Facebook page between October and December last year.
Pisasale is seeking general damages of $380,500 and $250,000 in aggravated damages claiming his reputation has been tarnished with "false allegations of serious criminal behaviour".
In a defence which has now been struck out, Mr Duffy claimed a defence of justification by reason of substantial truth, and also claimed Pisasale can't sue for defamation because he is a corporation.
