PARKING around the Cruise Whitsundays maritime terminal, Port of Airlie boat ramp and Beacons / Boathaven Beach, continued to make the pages of social media sites over the Christmas break.

Officer in Charge of the Whitsunday Police Station, Acting Senior Sergeant Simon Walter, said while police did not enforce the metered car parks, they were concerned about parking on the road, footpaths and grassed areas.

"We're getting people parking on yellow lines in the streets and people disobeying loading zones and no standing zones and parking on nature strips," he said.

"We have also received numerous complaints from people at the Beacons and we will enforce that." Act Snr Sgt Walter conceded there was a congestion problem in these areas but warned that parking in loading or no standing zones incurred a $45 penalty, with parking contrary to a disabled parking sign incurring a $227 fine.

He also warned there was a risk of trespassing as the blocks of land at the Beacons were private property.
