Palmwoods Hotel has the blues back
A NEW-look Palmwoods Hotel is relaunching itself as the home of blues music on the Sunshine Coast.
The hotel's picturesque Queenslander exterior has been retained but the building has been extensively renovated inside.
The fresh new look will be launched this Saturday at the same time as the hotel launches a regular monthly blues night, starting with Coast legends Doc Span and Barry Charles.
Venue manager Graham Duck said the hotel had always prided itself on offering free live entertainment and the blues nights were back after a hiatus.
"It's always been known for the blues. We used to have blues night here and the Coast doesn't have enough blues music venues, so we thought we'd make it the home of blues music again,” he said.
"Generally, the demographic around this area is interested in rock'n'roll and the blues.”
Mr Duck said the hotel was now ready to host the best blues acts from around the country and overseas.
He said the sports bar area had been revamped, the stage had been modified, and a poster wall had been created in keeping with the focus on music.
The hotel's bistro area has also been given a makeover.
Shade sails have been replaced by a roof with louvres, new carpets and tiles have been laid, two bars have been replaced with one island bar, and bi-fold doors installed to open up the area.
Mr Duck said the hotel had continued to trade throughout the renovations and although it was not easy, the result had been worth it.
Doc Span and Barry Charles will kick off the first of the regular blues nights with a free show from 9pm this Saturday. The blues nights will continue with the Adam Hole Band on November 12 and Mason Rack on December 10.
