Overturned truck causes traffic chaos for Sydney Airport

CREWS are still working to clear debris from a truck that lost control as it tried to enter the airport tunnel on the M5 this morning.

Traffic around the airport was thrown into chaos this morning after the loaded truck tipped over at 1am as it navigated the westbound on-ramp from Marsh Street and West Botany Street at Arncliffe.

A Transport Management Centre spokesman said the site was still a mess just before 10am but there were no longer traffic delays.

"Crews are still recovering the debris from the truck and once they do that engineers will come in and inspect the gantry and tiles to assess if there is any structural damage," he said.

"There is a lot of metal debris, they have an excavator and a bobcat down there that's currently working away to clear the damages."

The Daily Telegraph understands the truck lost control while travelling around the loop of the tunnel before destroying stone panels on the wall as it fell on its side.
