Overhaul for new and regional school attendance targets

AN OVERHAUL of public school attendance systems is underway across Queensland.

The Department of Education is putting in place 11 changes recommended by the State Government's Education and Innovation Committee in May.

These include new school and regional attendance targets based on the social, economic and geographic nature of each area; improving the Education Department's Every Day Counts website; and reviewing early childhood programs.

Education Minister Kate Jones said the Department of Education would shoulder most of the work.

Ms Jones said it could take 12 months to roll out all of the committee's recommendations.

"The Department of Education is implementing the report's recommendations over the next 12 months with many state schools already implementing some of the grassroots strategies," Ms Jones said.
