HAVE you heard the Outdoor Power Centre love the outdoors so much they are now stocking bicycles?

At the end of last year, owners of the Outdoor Power Centre, Kieran and Renee Nolan decided they need to branch out in their product base to include something they could retail all year round.

The Outdoor Power Centre is well known as a quality retailer and service centre of lawn mowers, brush cutters, pumps, generators, chainsaws and numerous other outdoor products, but now they also sell and maintain mountain bikes, road bicycles and kid's BMX bikes.

"Lawn mowers are a seasonal thing. During the warmer months, we're flat out, but we thought bikes might be something to help keep the winter months busy,” Kieran said.

"I have been a bike rider for years, both road and mountain and felt there was an opportunity to give Gympie bike riders more of a local option.”

It also didn't hurt that one of their employees, Mike Roderick, is also an avid fan of bikes, BMX in particular, and a very experienced bike mechanic.

"Plus, it was a way to utilise Mike's mechanic's skills,”Kieran said.

Business is already flourishing for Mike's services with those in the know, already aware of his sterling reputation with pedal powered vehicles.

"People know Mike is here servicing and repairing bicycles,”Kieran said.

Outdoor Power Centre stock three main brands of bikes; Avanti, DK Bikes and Kona, but they are also able to access other reputable brands such as Merida, Norco, BMC and Lapierre. They are steadily increasing their stock of parts and accessories.

"It's been mostly word of mouth so far. That's where a great deal of the work comes from. A lot of people still don't know we sell bikes,” Kieran said.

All adult bike purchases currently include a complementary bicycle helmet and first service.
