Our Cate Blanchett shines again with Oscar nomination

CATE Blanchett is expected to be a shoo-in for an Oscar after this morning's nominations announcement.

The Aussie actress's chances of a second golden statue have been buoyed by her win earlier this week at the Golden Globes.

The nominees for the 2014 Academy Awards were announced by another Aussie, Chris Hemsworth, and Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Cheryl Boone Isaacs at the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Beverly Hills.

Blanchett is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for her acclaimed performance in Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine.

If she wins then it will be her first Academy Award for a leading role, after she won an Oscar in 2005 for her supporting role in The Aviator.

Blanchett is also up for a Screen Actors Guild Award this Sunday.

The 86th annual Academy Awards will take place on March 3 AEDT and be broadcast by Channel 9 and Foxtel.

Australia's Catherine Martin received a double Oscar nomination - costume design and production design - for The Great Gatsby, joined by fellow Aussie Aussie collaborator Beverley Dunn joins her on the production design nomination.
