Our water is so good - it's worth bottling

THE Murweh Shire Council has partnered with two Taiwanese businessmen, Andrew Kong and Gerry Mo, to launch a new overseas product involving Charleville's own water.

According to Muweh Shire CEO Neil Polglase, RAW (Real Artesian Water), will be sourced bottled and sent from Charleville to Taiwan from as early as May or June this year.

Mr Polglase said the council was approached by the two businessmen who were wanting to utilise town water supply to provide bottled water to people in Taiwan.

"Council has given them approval to be able to take the bore water from one of the five town bores to establish the water bottling facility in Charleville to export to Taiwan,” he said.

Mr Polglase said the town water tower supply "is at fishing capacity to maintain the business” and the council saw a "really big positive in this.”

Mr Kong and Mr Mo are understood to have sourced a property next door to the council's water tower that is situated on Parry St.

Mr Polglase said a large tanker would transport the water to Brisbane to be bottled and shipped to Taiwan until a bottling facility could be established in Charleville.

Outlined in the initial business plan, Mr Polglase said it was expected RAW bottled water would be taking about 34,000 litres of water a week and was guaranteed not to affect the town's water supply.

RAW will be charged a bill through water rates, the same as any business, which will help maintain council's water infrastructure.

Mr Polglase said in the next five years, once the bottling system was established, it would create four to 10 new jobs in town.
