OUR SAY: Business confidence impresses
TODAY'S Better Business section contains an interesting review of the highs and lows of Coast business in 2016.
It paints a picture of a region full of budding entrepreneurs who aren't afraid to have a crack.
As with any business in any region, not all of the stories are of success, but the variety of efforts up and down the Sunshine Coast are testament to the fact our region and its residents are as keen as ever to retain our identity as a small business capital and that we should be an innovative hub to boot.
The Coast has to be one of the most attractive parts of the country, if not the world, to live in.
But we know employment and jobs are not as easy to come by as in the city or in a booming industrial area.
What that does is forces the people who want to stay here to reinvent themselves and to try to start their own business ventures.
From the former FIFO worker who opened his own brewery, to the continued activation of urban spaces, such as Maroochydore's Ocean St and Caloundra's Lamkin Lane, this need creates the impetus to the epic small business landscape that we have today.
What impresses us most is the number of young people trying to make a go of their own business.
So what can we expect from 2017?
In our view next year, which coincides with the 50th anniversary of the naming of the Sunshine Coast as well as the opening of our brand new hospital, should see further growth and business confidence.
Let's hope our entrepreneurs continue to prosper.
