Oscar nomination still sinking in for Margot Robbie
MARGOT ROBBIE still can't quite believe she's up for an Academy Award.
The star and producer of I, Tonya helms Australia's Oscars hopes, earned a nomination for best actress overnight alongside Sally Hawkins, Frances McDormand, Saoirse Ronan and Meryl Streep.
The Dalby-born, Gold Coast-raised actor jetted into Sydney yesterday for the Australian premiere of her biopic of disgraced US figure skater Tonya Harding, which opens in Australian cinemas tomorrow.
"Honestly, I don't think it's quite sunk in yet," she told News Regional Media.
"It was the most perfect scenario to hear such exciting news - right after my friends and family had all seen the film. We were all celebrating that and right before I was about to go to bed the nominations started coming through. I was in a room with all the people I love in the world."
While Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri's Frances McDormand is firming up as the favourite to win best actress, Robbie's Critics' Choice Award still puts her in with a chance.
But the recognition of a nomination for the film industry's highest honour is already a win for Robbie.
"It's already too good to be true," she said. "I'll be happy if nothing else happens again in my lifetime."
