OPINION: Time to celebrate our mums
I'M LUCKY to be surrounded by some pretty amazing mums.
I reckon mums can never get enough praise and recognition, so I'm going to dish some out for the two mums I love the most.
My own mum, Sharon, is one of the toughest, most inspiring women you're likely to meet.
She's more of a clip-around-the-ear than a cookies-after-school kind of mum, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
My wife, Samantha, has been a mum for two years and it's such a joy getting to see her do it every day.
It's easy to forget how taxing looking after a toddler can be, and how much creativity, patience and at times sheer grit and determination it takes to keep our little one occupied, but Sam does it, and excels at it.
I'm generally not a fan of putting a day aside to celebrate something that should be celebrated every day, but I have always been a big fan of Mother's Day.
My family has always made the effort to get together for lunch or dinner to show Mum how much we love her, though that has dropped off lately as we've all started to move away.
All the same, as corny as it might be, I'm glad we take the time to stop and remember our mums every year.
Let's all take a moment to say thanks to the women who made us who we are.
And you know what? Let's try to do it more often.
