OPINION: Elena and Matt made Sunshine Coast proud

WOW, what a ride!

Whether you're a fan or not, Tuesday's MasterChef grand final was a nail-biting watch.

Two finalists, two friends, both from the Sunshine Coast, battling it out for the title of MasterChef 2016.

At the end, Cooroy born Elena Duggan pipped Tewantin resident Matt Sinclair to the title by two points.

Perhaps it was Elena's rise from dark horse to finalist or Matt's easy likeability that saw him named a season favourite that garnered a lot of attention.

Whatever it was, at the end of the episode 160,000+ were talking about Elena and Matt on Facebook.

For me, it was more personal.

To know one finalist is pretty cool, but to know both!I went to high school with Elena (we called her Ellie) and Matt and his wife Jess are friends of my husband and I.

They both did a fantastic job.

And I wasn't the only one to think so, there was an outpouring of support for both of them on their Facebook pages and ours. They made the Sunshine Coast very proud.

Well done Elena and Matt!
