JOHN McHugh is off the road for the first time in eight years and has decided to use his spare time to organise a truckies reunion.
"Every time I speak to someone, someone has passed away," he told Big Rigs.
So the idea for a truckies reunion was born.
"There's five blokes I know of that have died. It's sad, blokes don't see each other."
The reunion will also raise money for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
This is the first truckies reunion held, or that Mr McHugh can remember anyway, where anyone can come. "Everyone's welcome," he said.
Interstate drivers are welcome and he hopes drivers from around the country will be able to join in.
"It's just about the blokes you meet on the road," he said.
"I'll try and do it every two years. I've met a lot of nice people driving, even the people working in the offices. I grew up at Inverell and I used to go into Brisbane to unload and you would be offered a cup of tea first."
There will be live music, dinner and drinks at the event for truckies to catch up with some old mates and make some new ones.
Sunday will be a fun day for families and friends.
The truckies reunion will be held at the North Tamworth Bears Football Grounds, Peel St, Tamworth on September 29-30 and includes a show and shine.
To enter your rig be at the showgrounds no later than 11am on the Sunday with a $10 nomination fee.
