ONE Nation Party's increasing popularity could be key for the Coalition Government who narrowly won the Federal Election in 2016.

Queensland University of Technology's Professor Clive Bean, an expert in voting behaviour and elections, said Capricornia MP Michelle Landry had narrowly won the seat with thanks to the Singapore billion-dollar investment deal. Read that story here: 

He said the news that Defence Minister Marise Payne knew about the compulsory land acquisitions prior to the July 2 Federal election could result in voters seeing the Federal Government as being 'shifty' and 'not telling the full story'.

Mr Bean said, as a result, some people would decide not to support them again.

"If you were a government strategist, you wouldn't like an event like this occurring," he said.

"It is possible that developments like the re emergence of One Nation, which will be tested at the next State election... If that develops, it may help the Federal (LNP) Government (be in a stronger position next election).

The Liberal Party yesterday announced a deal to preference One Nation over The Nationals in the Western Australian state election.

One Nation has announced candidates for the seats of Keppel, Mirani and Whitsundays so far in the next Queensland election.
