On the hunt for the 2019 'Face of the Races'

AFTER a successful campaign in 2018, the Mackay Turf Club is once again looking for the 'Face of the Races' as part of the Caneland Central Mackay Turf Girl competition.

Due to the community's response to last year's event, the Mackay Turf Girl race day is now a regular feature on the race calender.

Event Manager Kim Tower said she was excited for the competition to launch on Friday.

”The competition was a huge success last year and I'm looking forward to an even more successful campaign this year,” she said.

”The face of the races will be someone who has a sunny personality, enjoys meeting people and can hold their own in a conversation with a variety of corporate clients.

”If you are fashion savvy, confident, take pride in your presentation and love coming to the races then I encourage you to apply.”

The 2018 Mackay Turf Girl Mikaela Green said the competition improved her confidence and her ability to speak in public.

”It was definitely out of my comfort zone but I think it really helped my confidence,” she said.

Ms Green encouraged this year's nominees to embrace the experience.

”Have fun with it and just be yourself,” she said.

”The judges look for someone who has a bubbly personality and takes pride in themselves.”

Nominations are open from January 25 to February 21 and all nominees will be introduced and sashed at the Retro Race Day VIP party on Saturday, February 23.

If you or someone you know would like to apply, head to the Mackay Turf Club website or the Caneland Central Mackay Turf Girl Facebook page to find all the details, terms and conditions, criteria to meet, expectations of the role and nomination forms.
