Ocean lovers in for a rare treat
WHITSUNDAY ocean lovers will be able to immerse themselves in the wonders of the ocean without getting their feet wet this March.
The Ocean Film Festival world tour screens at the Proserpine Entertainment Centre Whitsundays for the first time and for one night only on March 11.
The festival, which features seven of the world's most captivating ocean-themed short films, will light up silver screens all across the country.
Designed to mesmerise and enthral, the Ocean Film Festival showcases more than two hours of sublime footage taken above and below the water's surface.
The films document the beauty and power of the ocean, and celebrate the divers, surfers, sailors, rowers, swimmers and oceanographers who live for the sea's salt spray, who chase the crests of waves, and who marvel at the mysteries of the big blue.
The films feature captivating cinematography, complete with awe-inspiring underwater scenes and fast-paced wave sequences that have been captured from unbelievable vantage points and will have audiences enthralled.
Mesmerising images of schooling fish, colourful coral gardens and jellyfish blooms are complemented with up-close footage of curious marine creatures such as seals, dolphins, turtles and whales.
Join the journey from New Zealand to Patagonia via Antarctica with a rag-tag crew of sailors, probe a foreign world where man is no longer the dominant force, track the survival of humpback whales in New Zealand with some salty old sea dogs and battle the temperamental North Atlantic winds to surf the frigid shores of Iceland.
Great Barrier Reef campaigner with the Australian Marine Conservation Society Cherry Muddle said film was a powerful educational tool to educate and inspire and ignite passion.
"We have such an amazing resource here on our doorstep and I encourage everyone to go and see the films,” she said.
Ms Muddle hoped an understanding of the wonder and scale of the world's oceans would spark a call to conservation action.
"It is a mysterious big blue wonderland and we are so fortunate to live on the doorstep of one of the jewels and I hope it will inspire people to step up and protect it,” she said.
This is an experience not to be missed this month in Proserpine.
