Northern Star, Glee pile on the goals

NORTHERN Star and Glee recorded convincing wins in Far North Coast A-grade women's hockey.

Star defeated East Lismore 4-1 while Glee accounted for Ballina 5-0.

Accurate passing between Sam Peiti, Freya Russell and Kate Marshall enabled Tracey Makings to pick up a pass and score for Star.

Two minutes later Freya Russell scored another and a third came when Sam Peiti's shot from a penalty corner was deflected into the goal.

Abby Vantaggiato used her skill to evade the East' defence and score Star's fourth.

In the second half East Lismore adopted closer marking and kept Star scoreless. Karen Eakin, Claire Davis and Jane Parrish frustrated Star's strikers while Janelle Pitman netted the team's only goal with three minutes to go.

In the other game, Glee was too strong for Ballina.

The seasiders had opportunities to score but Glee goalkeeper Julie McFadden made several vital saves.

The goals were scored by Ash Danvers (two), Sophie McDonogh, Nicole Hether-ington and Cassie Hughes.

Ballina strikers Cori Hardy, Corrine Busse and Kirrilee Brown combined well in attack but failed to finish off inside the circle.

Karen Flynn, Stacey Savins and Catherine Osborne were solid in defence for Glee.
