Noosa to show off at country show

THE beauty of the Noosa Country Show that swirls into life today, is that it offers a chance for town and country to escape also sorts of downturns and political swings and roundabouts for two days of rural release.

It's a place where the top dogs are actually canines and the only people wielding the axe are skilled woodchoppers who, in a digital age, still manage to enthral the crowds.

Sideshow Alley again offers some really good spin as people line up to be taken for a ride.

And yet for all that, Noosa Show Society president Peter Travis earlier this week was keeping one eye on the immediate sky above for good weather and another on the long-range political climate.

Mr Travis reckons the show must go on, and will, regardless of the whether the Pomona Showgrounds is located in the Sunshine Coast Council or the reborn Noosa Shire.

But he was optimistic about reclaiming a little more of Noosa's identity.

"The show is still here, and better than ever and will be even better still when we get our own Noosa back," Mr Travis said, mindful of not spooking any of the horses.

He said government funding had ensured a work gang of apprentices had spruced up the showgrounds.

The rodeo will be the big drawcard tomorrow night.

Mower racing tomorrow afternoon will be entertainment that is a cut above after the ute muster that morning.

There's the art festival in the squash courts as well as the usual big line-up of ring events with the grand parade 2pm tomorrow.

Mr Travis said the dog show has attracted a big pack of contenders this year, while he was expecting a rush of late baking would see the cookery section serve its usual high quality treats for the judges.

Gates open both days at 8am and a two-day family pass for two adults and three kids is great value $55.

A single-day family pass is $45, kids and concession card holders entry is $10 and adults $15.
