Noosa bride's awkward TV wedding

DEBBIE Brosnan always knew going on Married at First Sight would be a leap of faith, but she didn't realise how big that leap would be.

The former model and Noosa local was surprised to meet her groom on the TV series tonight.

The reality show's experts pair singles, who meet at the altar, using relationship science.

Debbie, 53, thought the signs of her TV wedding looked promising. The beach ceremony had a Polynesian theme, which she assumed was a hint at the cultural background of her husband-to-be.

"I thought it would be someone from another culture, because that's what I love," Debbie told the Daily.

"I told the experts it would be nice if my potential partner would be from Polynesian, Italian or American background... I want to get lost in a culture with someone."

Instead she was matched with father-of-two John Robertson, a small business owner from Melbourne.

"He wasn't what I was expecting; I was taken aback," she said.

"But he's a nice person and family was something that was important to me."

Their wedding reception was peppered with several awkward moments, from Debbie calling her new husband Robert to John pulling out the chair for his new bride a bit too quickly causing her to fall to the floor.

But, contrary to ads which aired before tonight's episode, their families appeared to approve of the union.

Debbie's brother Michael, who travelled from London to attend the wedding, called John 'a really top guy' while John's daughter Jessica used her reception speech to welcome Debbie into the family.

"I thought his daughters were absolutely gorgeous," she said. "They're well spoken and I think we'd get on well."

Debbie, who was too shy and reserved to kiss John on the lips after their ceremony, will now put her faith in the show's matchmakers to the test as she and John continue their experimental marriage by going on their honeymoon.

"I want to find out why they put us together and what they saw in us," she said.

"I have to take this leap of faith in the hope we do fall in love and become very good friends and lovers for life."

Married at First Sight continues tomorrow at 7.30pm on Channel 9.
