No same-sex marriage but we watch 'shams' on TV

I HOPE all viewers of television's latest fun bridal experiment have enjoyed the squirmingly embarrassing and anxiety-ridden episodes.

What passes as a "social experiment”, television's Married at First Sight is a perfect example of just how far our standards have fallen in the pursuit of "entertainment”.

Yes, I know the participants wanted their five minutes of fame (or infamy) but to watch intelligent human beings jumping through hoops of embarrassment and discomfort in unrealistic scenarios, just to please the viewers, is something akin to the Roman gladiator arenas.

Next, families will be sitting around pulling wings off flies, in front of the TV cameras, while the experts gauge their reaction to cruelty - all for ratings.

And where are all the sanctity-of-marriage supporters, so vocal in their horror at the thought of same-sex marriages, that they sit by and watch sham marriages being created for our viewing pleasure?

Where's the sanctity in painfully excruciating TV weddings?

At least same-sex couples know, love and respect each other and their commitment is real.

Gosh, we have become a pathetic race of TV viewers.
