Night drags on to raise vital funds

DRAG Queen Bingo might not be your typical night at the Coolum Civic Centre, but that is exactly the point.

The Sunshine Coast Environmental Council will be holding the light-hearted and quirky event as its annual fundraiser to enable it to continue their work in environmental advocacy.

Event co-ordinator Jacki Boyce said this was the second year a bingo event had been held.

"It's a hilarious style of bingo,” she said.

"Last year we sold out and had over 200 people, so we are really excited and expecting to have around that many again this year.

"We like to run events the community can get involved with, so the whole idea is to have a light-hearted and fun night and people can come along and support a good cause.”

In addition to the bingo, the event will include a bar and raffles, with attendees encouraged to bring their own food to enjoy.

Ms Boyce said they were hoping to raise around $5000 through the night.

"It'll all go toward our work to protect the environment,” she said. "We work with community groups on issues facing the Coast's natural beauty, such as inappropriate developments, climate change and excessive tree clearing.

"The Coast community people are quite connected to the environment and really love and appreciate the amazing environment that we have.

With the event likely to sell out, attendees are urged to to purchase tickets in advance at www.scec.org.au.

The event is 18+ and will be held from 6.30pm on Friday, November 10.
