Nicholas, our own fantastic teen star
CURRENTLY in Ontario, Canada, filming the cinema reboot of cult horror series IT, Alstonville teen Nicholas Hamilton is flying high in Hollywood.
His latest release, Captain Fantastic, opens in Australia today after getting glowing reviews from viewers at Sundance and Cannes earlier this year.
In Captain Fantastic, actor Viggo Mortensen plays a father devoted to raising his six kids with a rigorous physical and intellectual education who is forced to leave his paradise and enter the world, challenging his idea of what it means to be a parent.
Hamilton, 16, plays Rellian, one of the man's six children.
The teen confirmed he still lives in Alstonville and loves coming back home.
"I don't feel the need to move anywhere else yet, maybe one day and most likely to Los Angeles, but not just yet," he said.
He said he is missing the Northern Rivers, as he has been in and out of the country this year due to professional commitments.
"The last time I was at home doing school and a normal life was probably January or February, which is insane," he said.
Besides attending the Sundance and Cannes premieres of Captain Fantastic, Hamilton has been working in two projects based on Stephen King books this year.
"In February we did Sundance and then I went on a holiday to England to visit my brother (Joshua) while he was over there, and we did a trip to France," he said.
"In France we went to the Cannes festival with Captain Fantastic, and then we got a call saying I had to go to South Africa just for a day (of shooting) for a one-line part in The Dark Tower, based on a Stephen King text (set to be released next year).
"They flew me over for that part about four months ago, stayed in South Africa for a week, did all the tourist stuff, and on the day we came back I got a call saying that I was offered the role of Henry Bowers in the reboot of Stephen King's IT.
"So I haven't been home for a very long time."
Hamilton will be back on the Northern Rivers later this month and he hopes to remain here until the end of the year.
Captain Fantastic is open in Australia now.
