NHVR: Better performing trucks key to safety
TREVOR Warner reckons the Australian government doesn't "give a rat's ass" about driver comfort, fatigue or mental stability.
"Let's not mention happy drivers, living in decent trucks for days or weeks on end," he said.
Trevor shared his thoughts after reading National Heavy Vehicle Regulator chief executive officer Sal Petroccitto's column in Big Rigs about the link between Australia's 400-plus road managers, heavy vehicles and the NHVR being vital to heavy vehicle productivity and safety across Australia.
Mr Petroccitto said there was significant discussion around innovation, in particular the role of high-productivity Performance Based Standards vehicles.
Steven Cosson wished that a "even playing field in the terms of trip rates to owners" would be looked at.
"I've worked for big companies that are subbies for these big companies and getting $2k to run down and $5k back," he said.
"Big contractors can afford it, but no the man trying to make a living out of it.
"If that was the difference in the price of milk between the states there would be a bloody government enquiry, a middle and even rate would make a big difference."
