Next gen of engineers step up in Surat
THE next generation of engineers and technologists are being unearthed at Surat State School, as a series of workshops from the Origin Foundation and Engineers Without Borders (EWB) travel across the region.
Excited students were able to participate in workshops from the travelling group that involved constructing objects from small materials among other exciting workshops as part of the Regioneering Roadshow program of EWB on Thursday, February 11.
Regioneering team member Tharun Sonti said Thursday’s workshops were just one of many across south-west Queensland that would connect students to critical thinking and help them to tackle problems in a creative manner.
“We’re opening their eyes to something different and helping them to solve problems with critical thinking,” he said.
“At the same time, we get them to think about the humanities side of work.
“Engineering is more than just maths and science; there are lots of problems, global and local, that can be solved by putting your mind to it.”
Mr Sonti said he also wanted to encourage students to think about careers in STEM fields.
