Newell Highway Dubbo fatal crash

The Newell Highway at Dubbo remains closed after a fatal truck crash this morning.

Just before 4am, two trucks had a head-on collision on the highway, about 20km south of Dubbo. One of the trucks ignited after the crash.

Police and emergency services attended the scene and the fire was extinguished.

One of the drivers died at the scene, the other has been taken to Dubbo Hospital in a stable condition.

The Newell Highway is expected to be closed until at least midday whilst an investigation takes place.

Diversions are in place. Northbound traffic on the Newell Highway is being diverted through Narromine. Traffic intending to travel south should follow the diversions through Narromine, or alternatively use the Mitchell Highway.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
