New Wiggles TV show to debut on ABC

THE new-look Wiggles will return to TV screens next month in a new children's show for the ABC.

Ready, Steady, Wiggle! will debut on September 11 and feature new band members Simon Pryce, Lachlan Gillespie and first-ever female Wiggle Emma Watkins alongside original Blue Wiggle Anthony Field.

It's the first Wiggles TV series in six years and follows the move of founding members Murray Cook, Greg Page and Jeff Fat to behind-the-scenes roles in songwriting and concert management.

Also returning to the 52-part daily show, which has already launched in Canada, are sidekicks Dorothy the Dinosaur, Wags the Dog, Henry the Octopus and Captain Feathersword.

The series will feature 70 new songs and screen at 8.35am week days on ABC2.

A national summer concert tour, also called Ready Steady Wiggle, has also been announced.

Starting in Hobart on December 4, the tour will travel to Launceston, Adelaide, Canberra, Melbourne, Wollongong, Newcastle, Sydney and Brisbane.

The Melbourne concert will be a special show featuring the Wiggles backed by the 60-piece Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

Tickets for the Wiggles' Ready Steady Wiggle Tour go on sale on Friday, September 6, through Ticketek.
