New president swoops in to save the day
LET it be known than Jimmy Beale doesn't go down without a fight.
When he heard that his treasured Oaklands Truck Show was in danger of losing its date on the show calendar, he gathered up a small army of like-minded fans of the Riverina showpiece to put a stop to the scuttelbutt once and for all.
Most of his new-look committe are also from the transport industry and motivated to see the entire community continue to benefit from the funds raised each year.
The result, says the new show president proudly, is shaping up to be biggest and best weekend in the event's 11 history on March 23-24.
Oaklands now boasts an enviable array of prize categories for trucks, cars, utes and bikes.
The event also has Burrumbuttock Hay Run legend Brendan Farrell as guest speaker.
For Jimmy, however, it's always hard to top the Lights on the Hill ceremony on the Saturday night.
That one is dedicated to Wayne 'Marto' Martin, who passed away in a truck accident in March, 2016 - just two days after winning the Truck of the Show prize at Oaklands.
