New Liverpool Academy starts at SCU

LISMORE'S Liverpool Football Club International Academy NSW has kicked off with a seven-week coach education program aimed at training local coaches.

The partnership between the world famous club and Lismore's Southern Cross University was announced in April and since then the newly formed Academy has recruited former Liverpool Academy coach James Gow.

"We have been overwhelmed by the positive response" academy general manager Scott Collis said.

"We have 35 coaches (between Ocean Shores and Maclean) who have committed to a seven-week coach education program.

"The response has been so great we have had to put on extra training nights to accommodate everyone."

The coaches will attend two sessions each week before decisions are made on roles at the academy based on individual coaches level of development and availability.

Roles on offer will also depend on the level of demand from local players but Collis says the signs are good with already a great deal of interest.

"We have received hundreds of emails from interested players, it has been very encouraging to see the level of interest building as we develop," he said.

Local players attending Liverpool International Academy programs have access to the most authentic club coaching program bringing together LFC Academy philosophy and practices with a focus on key life skills such as communication, team work, problem solving and goal setting.

"We are planning on hosting an information open night for local families in late September where we will give all the details of what we will be offering," Collis said.

"I can say now that we are actively looking for ways to combine the proven Liverpool coaching programs with the highly regarded sports science expertise of Southern Cross University to create a truly unique opportunity for young players in our region."
