New EP is sure to excite band fans
EMERGE's Calen Le Couteur recently sat down with Michael Trapp from Until Home to talk about their sophomore EP Disillusion.
C: How did Until Home first form?
M: I've been friends with our guitarist Matt for ever, and we learnt music together.
We then went on to writing music together and writing our first dodgy song so it happened pretty naturally through school.
C: Who are you most prominent musical influences?
M: As a band, we come from pretty different backgrounds. I suppose the way we write, we've all been influenced by people like John Mayer, Chris Martin, bands like Coldplay, One Republic, and Evermore. All of those are pretty big influences for us.
C: What was the first album you remember loving and do you still enjoy it to this day?
M: X and Y by Coldplay.
They were one of the first bands I ever got into as a child.
It's what got me into music and song-writing.
I love the way that Chris writes and I still listen to that album all the time.
C: What can you tell us about your second EP Disillusion?
M: We're super proud of it.
I think we did that, so we're really proud that this EP is a good reflection of where we've been, and where we're at going forward.
C: How do you think it varies from your debut EP?
M: I feel like we've grown up a little bit since the first EP. We're so proud of the first EP.
But that EP was a reflection of how we were as young guys with songs we'd written years and years ago and brought together as a band.
C: When did you guys first start working on the EP?
M: We started mid-2016.
We're so lucky that we've been able to spend a lot of time with our producer on both EPs so that we can get the songs to the point where we're completely happy.
It's been a long journey but we're stoked.
C: Which song on the EP is your personal favourite and why?
M: I think we all have an attachment to each song in a certain way but, for me, My Father is my favourite.
It's the most personal one lyrically.
I'd say that and Say You Love Me.
C: Who are some of your favourite Queensland bands/musicians?
M: I'm a big fan of Ball Park Music and Jarryd James.
C: What else can we expect from you guys this year?
M: A lot of shows. We're planning a tour but there are no dates that we'll be announcing just yet. We're always looking to make more music as well.
C: If you only had four words to describe your EP which four words would you use?
M: Very real and honest.
Until Home's sophomore EP Disillusion is now available to stream and purchase.
