Late-night tapas bar to open in Lismore

THE WEATHER may feel like Melbourne at the moment, but fingers crossed Lismore goes full 'urban hipster' and gets a new small late-night bar.

An application to Lismore City Council, for a small late-night tapas style bar at Summerland Arcade is awaiting approval.

Prepared by WJ Tovvnend Town Planning, the application has been submitted by Lismore musicians Clare Mason-Binns and Fleur Bradburn who, sick of straining to hear local talent over trilling pokies and shouting punters, recently formed event business Augustine Jay.

The duo said they wanted to remain tight-lipped about their plans as the DA is not yet approved.

This development application seeks consent from council to utilise Shops 7, 8 and 9, which front the south-western end of the Summerland Arcade, located at 98 Woodlark Street, for 'small bar' purposes and for additions to the subject shops and arcade, including toilet renovations.

Operating hours are proposed Monday to Sunday from 11 am to 12am.

The DA states: Tapas type foods/produce will be served ancillary to the 'small bar' usage. Wine, produce, pre-made foods etc will be purchased or made offsite and certain foods may be reheated onsite. No cooking is proposed to be undertaken within the premises as part of this application.

From 11 am to 5.30pm it is proposed to utilise the floor space along the eastern wall of the subject shops (within the arcade) for seating and service in addition to that which is wholly contained inside the shop walls.

From 5.30pm to 12am (when all other shops are closed) it is proposed to utilise both sides of the arcade for additional seating and service in addition to that which is wholly contained inside the shop walls. An appropriate walkway will be maintained throughout the arcade at all times.

This application proposes a maximum number of fifty (50) people at any one time that will enjoy service/seating.

Is Summerland Aracde the new trendy Melbourne-like laneway? Earlier this year, another young and trendy duo Georgia Philp and Darcy Ogdon-Nolan Bircher Bar opened The Bircher Bar cafe and commercial kitchen in the old Lismore arcade.
