Museum increases security

AFTER repeated break ins, The Burrum District Museum in Howard has been granted funds to increase their security measures.

The museum was a received $7000 through the 2017 Safer Queensland Community Grants Program.

The building is often considered an "easy target" due to its location on the edge of town surrounded by bushland.

Funds will be put towards the installation of security cameras which is expected to add as a deterrent and help museum volunteers and police identify any culprits.

The grant is part of Suncorp and the Queensland Police Service who have delivered $250,000 in grants across Queensland.

More than $30,000 has been awarded to four community police groups in the Wide Bay Burnett region in the program.

Suncorp representative April Cavanagh said recipients of the grant focused on important local issues.

"What's so great about the (program) is that the best ideas for local communities come from the people living in those communities," she said.
