Mum, daughter hit Mackay for four days for Elton

RACHELLE and Juanita Harris have to be two of the luckiest women in Australia at the moment, holding two platinum tickets to Elton John that they won.

Rachelle, from the Gold Coast, scored the prizes during her trip to Mackay several weeks ago, after making an appearance on the Footy Show.

She was invited up as a guest of the show to participate in a segment known as 'No Talent Time', after sending in a ten second video of her singing.

At the time she thought winning a spot on the show was a victory enough, which she came second in with a rendition of Sia' Chandellier, she had no idea it had put her in the running for two tickets to Elton.

She was awarded the tickets on live national TV.

Mum Juanita, a long time Elton fan, said she was over the moon, and made it clear to her husband straight away that she would be getting that other ticket.

"It was just amazing, our little boys were watching her and we were all just like oh my god really!,” she said.

"I've always loved Elton so when she got the tickets I just couldn't believe it.”

Rachelle said being platinum tickets, some of her friends told her to sell them and cash in, but being a once in a lifetime opportunity she wasn't going to pass up the chance.

That fact, and that her mother would never forgive her.

"I'm so excited, I just cannot wait to go now,” Rachelle said.

"When friends said sell them I was just like no bloody way are you kidding me, I'm seeing Elton! We're second row and we get an hour and a half of free cocktails before too, talk about winning.”

Rachelle, who works at a Gold Coast nursing home with her mother, said she was the envy of the home, with all of her residents wishing they were going too and begging for photos and videos.

"They all stayed up to watch me on the Footy Show, right up until 11pm and that is big in a nursing home,” she said. "They were all cheering me on and now they can't believe I'm going to Elton too.

"There are some serious fans amongst them.”

Juanita and Rachelle landed in Mackay on Thursday.

They have decided to make a longer holiday of their trip, renting a car to visit all the best spots in Mackay over four days.
