YOUR LETTERS: More international flights would be beneficial
I HOPE the Sekisui people don't turn their blindfolded eyes too hard in the direction of the proposed airport extensions.
I, for one, would really like to be able to access more interstate flights from Maroochydore, and I do think that the so-called "short drive" to Brisbane is not always short at all (as seen during the rain event of the past couple of weeks), plus it involves parking the car long-term in most people's cases, so added costs are a given.
I don't really expect we'll get much in the way of international flights from here, but it would be great to be able to fly direct to New Zealand, maybe Fiji, even Hawaii, all of which often utilise smaller planes with regional airlines.
We do need development on the Sunny Coast. It can't be locked up. Better to develop carefully with a view to what residents would like.
Had I bought a property in the general area of the airport during the past 10 or 15 years, it would have been evident to me that the airport would be likely to extend.
If that thought was too distressing, go somewhere else.
And yes, the planes fly over my house frequently. I quite like it.
