Month of pink tutus pays off for Hutchies, Blush Cancer Care

WEARING pink tutus throughout the month of October was worth it for Hutchinson Builders' tradies - $11,184 to be exact.

The builders, working on the $30 million St Vincent's Private Hospital operating theatres redevelopment, went pink to raise money for Toowoomba charity Blush Cancer Care.

Blush Cancer Care is a local group raising money for people on the Downs diagnosed with breast cancer.

Blush president Sharyn Donaldson said the money would pay directly for breast cancer nurses.

"We pay their wages jointly with St Vincent's and St Andrew's Private Hospitals and they directly look after cancer patients - both women and men," she said.

Ms Donaldson said there were "so many worthy causes out there" and the organisation was "so grateful" for the effort Hutchinson Builders made to raise the money.

Hutchinson Builders site leader Ian Hutton said raising money through wearing tutus, as well as barbecues, and the pink parade walk earlier in the year all contributed to the final amount raised.

Mr Hutton said team leader Rob Weymouth also chipped in, pledging to match whatever the crew raised.

"Early detection is the best prevention so we thought let's get on board and do what we can," Mr Hutton said.

"It was a morale booster - everyone on the site had a good laugh.

"The pink tutus were worth it. It's a great month for everyone. We're really happy we could do this."
