Call Me Dad is a compelling film which puts an uncompromising spotlight on the voices that are rarely heard - the male perpetrators of family and domestic violence.

It is also the subject of a Film and Forum evening at Moncrieff Entertainment Centre being held as part of Domestic and Family Violence Awareness Month.

Community and Cultural Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Judy Peters said Council had partnered with EDON Place in hosting the movie and forum, to be held from 6pm on Wednesday, May 25.

"Unfortunately for some people living in our community, domestic and family violence is a part of life," Cr Peters said.

"The Call Me Dad Film and Forum aims to raise awareness about the issue within our community.

"This is the first step in the important journey we as a community must take to 'break the cycle' of family violence."

EDON Place Service Director Lyne Booth said the screening of the film Call Me Dad would be followed by a panel discussion.

"The panel is made up of a variety of people from local organisations who work within the field of domestic and family violence," Ms Booth said.

"The panel discussion will enable frank and open discussion that can raise awareness about what family and domestic violence is and why social attitudes need to change.

"The forum will reflect on the themes identified in the film and send a clear message to men using abuse that it's time now to become better partners, better fathers, better men and to engage with our community in a more meaningful way.

"We hope to help spread the message of Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month which is 'Not Now, Not Ever' - Putting an End to Domestic and Family Violence in Queensland."
