BOXING: Kingscliff-based boxer Jason Moloney will step into the ring next month with a fighter he described as "confident”.

Moloney (18-1) will put his WBA Oceania bantamweight title on the line against Mexican fighter Cesar Ramirez at the Seagulls Club on June 15.

The fight will headline Boxingmania 6, a co-promotion between the Kingscliff Boxing Stable and Dragon Fire Boxing.

Moloney said his body was in great condition since his last fight - a fifth-round stoppage win over Filipino contender Cris Paulino back in March.

"I'm feeling fantastic, the body pulled up great after my last fight so I had a few days off to recharge the batteries and then I was straight back to work,” Moloney said.

"I've got some very exciting things on the horizon and I'm so close to getting another chance at becoming world champion so my motivation and focus is at an all time high.”

Standing in the Australians way is Ramirez (17-3) who is on a five-fight win streak dating back to November 2016.

Moloney said he was in for a tough challenge from the Mexican, and was very aware of Ramirez's punching power.

"All three of his losses have come against very good, undefeated fighters including a world champion, so I know he will be coming here confident and eager to take my title,” Moloney said.

"I believe in my ability so right now it's just about putting in a lot of hard work over the next four weeks and then making sure I put it all together and perform on the night.”

Moloney's brother, Andrew, is also scheduled to be fighting on the card, with an opponent expected to be announced in the coming days.
