A DAY before the election, Australian Greens leader Christine Milne defended candidates who live in Brisbane but who are running in electorates up to 2000km away.

She has also warned Premier Campbell Newman not to steal another safe LNP candidate's seat if he lost Ashgrove, just so he could remain in the top position.

The seats of Mount Isa, Warrego (near Roma), Callide, Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Mirani and Burnett have Greens candidates who do not live in their electorates.

Yesterday in Brisbane, Ms Milne said these candidates would move to their electorates if they were elected.

She said they were chosen to run so Queenslanders had a choice to vote for the Great Barrier Reef, a solar future, and a better public transport system.

"This is something that happens right across the country," she said. Ms Milne also said Premier Campbell Newman would upset Queenslanders if he lost his seat of Ashgrove today but remained in the top spot.

There is a possibility Mr Newman could remain Premier if he lost his seat, if another LNP member gave up their position and allow Mr Newman to run in their seat.

Mr Newman's media team have previously vowed during his election campaign he would not do that.

Ms Milne said if Mr Newman was not re-elected, he should stay out.

"He should be ruling out right now, if he gets out of Ashgrove, he should rule out forcing someone out of a seat and trying to get back in through the back door," she said.
