Medical ship pulls in a healthy crowd
THE Australian Youth With A Mission's medical ship was inundated with hundreds of visitors over the weekend at Gladstone Marina.
They were spreading the word about their mission to improve the health of people in Papua New Guinea.
The 60m MV Ammari, which holds volunteers from 12 nationalities, arrived in town on Friday afternoon.
It left early this morning for Brisbane.
The ship will travel until December along Australia's east coast on an YWAM Overcoming the Impossible tour.
The aim is to raise $6.5 million to purchase the ship, recruit medical and marine volunteers and build their Australian support base, before commissioning the ship in PNG to deliver healthcare and training in coastal communities.
A solar-powered dentist chair was one of the most interesting pieces of equipment onboard, which will be distributed to dentists in PNG.
