Mayor's Ball raises thousands for Mackay charities

ABOUT $35,000 has been raised at the Mackay Mayor's Charity Ball, thanks to a crowd of more than 210 glamorous Mackay region residents.

Held on Saturday night at Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre (MECC), the 13th annual ball included 11 live auctions and about 30 silent auctions, which raised money for charity.

Hosted by Sunrise Rotary Club of Mackay, the ball's proceeds will be split between three community organisations: PCYC Mackay, Community Accommodation Support Agency Mackay (CASA Mackay ) and M&K Massi Women's Group.

Mackay-based country musician Graeme Connors donated a signed guitar for the night's auction.

It was one of the most sought-after items, with $5000 raised in bidding.

A media advertising package was also popular, pipping the guitar and raising $7400.
