Hayley Marsten ready to share stage with Keith Urban
GLADSTONE-born musician Hayley Marsten will share the stage with superstar Keith Urban at this year's Deni Ute Muster.
The 21-year-old found out she was on the bill for the festival when she was at the Sydney Airport.
"I just wanted to stand up and yell it out to everyone, but I didn't know anyone there," she said.
"I texted my mum and said to her 'When your plane lands run straight over to me, I'm serious, run'."
"She was so happy."
Hayley will perform a set on the last day of the festival, closing out the day stage before the night performances kick off.
It will be her first time performing at the festival.
"I'm really happy about the spot I have because it's a time when most people will be there ready to catch the night performances.
"This is definitely my biggest festival.
"There's just one stage so the thousands of people are always there."
"I feel like this is the best year to play there too since Keith Urban is headlining."
Hayley's hoping to be able to sneak back stage to catch a glimpse of the country music superstar.
"Maybe I can just walk up and say, 'hey let's be friends'," she said.
She plans to perform a mix of originals, covers and new music.
This year she has worked on new material for her next album, which she hopes to release next year.
"It's a bit wider on the emotional scale, it's varied, there's parts that are sassy, sort of like I-don't-need-you type of love songs, then of course there's the softer songs too," she said.
"It's a deeper look into who I am as a person and an artist."
The young musician was all smiles this week handing in her final piece of assessment for her university degree.
Now she's planning on moving back to Gladstone to be closer to friends and family.
As for what's next for the country musician, she teased there were bigger and better things to come that will be announced soon.
The Deni Ute Muster is held in Deniliquin, New South Wales, on September 30 and October 1.
To catch Hayley in Gladstone, head along to the Young Oz Hotel on Friday June 17 or Lightbox Espresso and Winebar for a Sunday session on June 19.
