MasterChef’s new power player Billie has the golden touch

BALLINA cook Billie McKay is looking good in MasterChef's golden apron.

The 23-year-old was the star of last night's episode, winning two of the reality cooking show's most coveted advantages: the Power Apron and an immunity pin, the first awarded this season.

The challenge involved two rounds where the competitors had to select a type of protein to cook with and a style of cuisine from eight different nations.

In the first round she beat strong competitor Sarah Oteri with perfectly cooked flathead, while in the second round she beat Jessie Arnott with her finger-licking twice-cooked orange and cinnamon chicken.

"That chicken is cooked absolutely beautifully; literally that falls off the bone," judge Matt Preston said.

The Power Apron will give Billie an advantage in tonight's team challenge, while she can use the immunity pin at any point to get out of an elimination cook-off.

MasterChef airs Sundays through Thursdays at 7.30pm on Channel 10.
